BioFlux Live Cell Imaging Under Shear Flow
Summary

The BioFlux combines the throughput and convenience of a well plate with the physiological relevance of controlled shear flow. The core of the technology is Fluxion’s microfluidic flow cells which are embedded into the bottom of standard 48 and 24 well plates which allows for easy experimental set up and image acquisition into existing workflows. Precise control over shear flow along with the microfluidic technology allows the BioFlux to offer a wide variety of cellular applications such as vascular emulation (adhesion and transmigration to endothelial cells), platelet adhesion and aggregation, migration and invasion assays, wound healing, controlled stem cell differentiation and microbiology applications such as biofilm growth, mutant screening, microbial adhesion antibacterial or antifungal screening and host-pathogen interactions.
Features and benefits
- Controlled, physiological shear flow up to 200 dyne/cm2 – bridges the gap between in vitro and in vivo experimentations, helps to optimise lead compounds and eliminate compounds before going to costly clinical trials.
- The BioFlux also comes as a fully automated walk away system with a Nikkon or Zeiss microscope and provides high throughput kinetic assays (please see the Labtech website for details).
- Well plate simplicity, a standard format, pre-sterilised and no tubing to change – ensures quick setup and experimental reproducibility.
- High throughput from 24 up to 96 samples run in parallel for end point analysis – reduces time to publication and accelerates drug discovery and development.
- Microfluidic flow cells allow for very small volumes of samples, reagents or compounds which can result in consumable savings.
- Pulsatile flow option for more physiological relevance for endothelial assays.
- Environmental control option for live cell assays and anaerobic conditions.
- Broad range of applications with one system enables more complete research projects and opportunities for collaborations.
