Overview
Quality Control of your Results
BioTek recognizes the importance of verifying the performance of analytical instrumentation. Many regulatory agencies, laws (such as CLIA 88) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs) require a microplate reader be periodically checked to ensure it continues to meet factory specifications.
Consistent performance over time is a hallmark of BioTek products. However, that consistency must be validated and documented.
BioTek Provides Performance Verification
All BioTek automated readers can be quickly and simply tested for critical performance specifications using two complementary methods uniquely developed by BioTek Instruments:
- BioTek's optional Absorbance Test Plate uses neutral density filters and precision machined alignment holes to confirm performance specs.
- BioTek's on-board Reader Diagnostic Self-Test verifies the reader's optical and electronic performance.
BioTek's Absorbance Test Plate helps meet regulatory instrumentation requirements by testing four critical specifications:
- Alignment
- Accuracy
- Reproducibility
- Linearity
The Absorbance Test Plate is the size and shape of a standard microplate and is inserted into the microplate carrier of your autoreader. Within seconds, the four critical parameters described above are analyzed in detail.
NIST-Traceable
Each Test Plate consists of the following:
- NIST (NBS)-traceable neutral density glass filters for checking accuracy, reproducibility, and linearity
- Blanking verification holes
- Alignment verification holes
Exact spectrophotometric calibration data is supplied with every plate for each neutral density filter at 8 wavelengths: 405, 450, 490, 550, 620, 630, 690, and 750 nm.
Use as a Documentation Tool
By providing an easy and convenient method of monitoring the performance of your autoreader over time, the calibration test plate (coupled with the diagnostic reader self-test) can be an invaluable aid in diagnosing system performance, as well as a documentation tool in your research or clinical laboratory.

BioTek's Absorbance Test Plate complies with the IVD (In Vitro Diagnostics) Directive.
