The ADAM automated cell counter provides accurate total cell numbers and viability measurements. Conventional cell counters use trypan blue staining methods which can result in inaccurate data. ADAM uses sensitive fluorescent dye staining, LED excitation and CCD detection to provide accurate and reliable cell counts.

Conventional automated cell counters use flow cells or counting chambers which are integrated inside the system. During or after cell counting, the tubing or chambers can become blocked by cell debris which requires extensive cleaning and maintenance.

ADAM comprises a precision microscope with fluorescence optics, CCD detection and image analysis software. Cell samples are stained with a fluorescent dye, propridium iodide, which intercalates DNA thereby staining the nuclei. Samples are pipetted into the disposable Accuchips and then loaded into ADAM. ADAM automatically captures up to 30 fluorescent images for each sample by moving the automated x-y stage. Captured images are processed by the integrated image analysis software, with cell counts and viability measurements being displayed on the front panel display. Software also permits data to be transferred and visualised on an external computer if required.
