A revolutionary Transilluminator for the observation of fluorescently

stained DNA in gels, tubes, centrifuge gradients etc.

The small and medium sized Dark Reader contains multiple blue LED’s

whereas the larger model contains a low powered fluorescent lamp to

excite dyes such as SYBR Green, Ethidium Bromide and SYPRO Orange.

Using a unique combination of filters, the Dark Reader achieves the

same sensitivity as a UV Transilluminator with both SYBR Green and

SYPRO Orange.

Non-UV technology has these powerful and impressive benefits…

• No DNA damage – essentially zero damage to DNA, even over a five minute exposure.
• No UV emission, therefore perfectly safe to the eyes and skin. No need for safety shields.
• Sensitivity increased when using SYBR GREEN stained DNA, visual sensitivity of 0.5 to 1ng DNA is achieved.
• When using a CCD camera, it is possible to detect ten picograms of stained DNA.
• No heat build-up even after one hour’s operation, the surface of the transilluminator remains at ambient temperature. No gel drying out
• or DNA damage due to heat build-up.

Dark Reader Transilluminators can be used for viewing a wide range of
fluorescent samples including SYBR Green, GelStar, SYPRO Ruby, PROQ
diamond, Fluorescein and various GFP’s.
We currently have 3 different sized transilluminators available:

1. The compact DR46B transilluminator has a 15 x!19cm viewing surface – convenient for viewing DNA and protein mini-gels as well as other  smaller samples.
2. The mid-size DR88X transilluminator has a 25 x 22cm viewing surface and is ideal for most laboratory applications.
3. Our largest unit, the DR195M transilluminator, has a 30 x 46cm surface for viewing multiple samples and extra large gels.

An amber screen that fits exactly over the blue surface is included with
each transilluminator. The amber screen absorbs the blue excitation light,
after it has illuminated the sample, thereby allowing the user to clearly see
the fluorescence. The amber screen can also be used as a camera filter.
