bullet on Lowry Assay

The NanoDrop® ND-8000 Spectrophotometer can be used to measure protein concentration via the Modified Lowry Protein Assay. This method is based on the widely cited Lowry assay and involves the reaction of protein with cupric sulfate in alkaline solution, resulting in the formation of tetradentate copper-protein complexes. The Folin-Ciocalteu Reagent is effectively reduced in proportion to the chelated copper-complexes resulting in a water-soluble blue product measured at 650 nm.

  • Concentration of protein is calculated and displayed in mg/ml
  • Allows generation of standard curves with up to 7 standards. Four curve fitting analysis options available
  • Concentration of protein is calculated and displayed
  • Reblank feature allows for the re-analysis of previous set of samples with a new set of references (blanks) for each channel
  • Full spectrum data is automatically archived in a text delimited file on the controller PC and easily reviewed using the Data Viewer feature
  • Sample or plate ID can be preloaded by using a barcode reader or importing from a file
  • Absorbance is represented as a 1mm path equivalent
